Thirunavaya Mahamagha Mahotsavam
At the premises of the Thirunavaya Navamukunda Temple.
January 16 to February 3
According to legend, the first sacrificial rite (yajna) for the welfare of the world was performed by Parashurama on the banks of the Bharathapuzha at Thirunavaya, in a place called Tapasunur, now known as Thavunur. All the gods are said to have attended this yajna, which was conducted under Brahma’s direction as per Parashurama’s instructions. The sacrificial month of Magha, when the seven sacred rivers converge in the Bharathapuzha (known as Dakshina Ganga), is considered especially auspicious.

Association with
For the devotees and volunteers arriving at the festival, Ammu Care Foundation is running an annashala (free food service) in the Mahamagha Mahotsavam city.
The chariot procession that sets out from the place of origin of the Bharathapuzha to the Mahamagha Mahotsavam at Thirunavaya, carrying the consecrated Srichakra, is led by Yatheesanandanathan (Dr. Srinath Karayat), Acharya of the Bharatiya Dharma Prachara Sabha.
January 19
Chariot Procession begins from Tirumūrti Mala
The Vedic chanting and Vedic rituals, including the Gayatri Yajna, conducted for the holy bath during the Magha Mahotsavam are being organized under the auspices of the Gayatri Gurukulam.
One of the most significant features of the Maha Magha Mahotsavam is the ritual framework in which Acharyas from all traditions of Kerala jointly share the role of spiritual leadership. Free from distinctions of sect, community, or gender, Acharyas from across Kerala—from Thiruvananthapuram to Kasaragod—come together to lead this Maha Magha Yajna.
The Yajamana (chief patron) of this Maha Magha Yajna is Mauna Yogi Swami Harinarayanan, the Acharya of the Guruvayur Shirdi Sai Mandiram.
Mahamagham
The rare planetary alignment in which the Sun is positioned in the zodiac sign of Makara (Capricorn) and Guru, or Brihaspati (Jupiter), enters the zodiac sign of Kumbha (Aquarius) occurs during the month of Māgha.
Māgha is a month that is especially dear to deities such as the Sun, Shiva, Vishnu, and the Ganga.
Navakodi Narayana Japarchana
The Navakoti Narayana Nama Japa conducted for the welfare of the world is led by Bhagavata Yogam, the collective forum of Bhagavata Acharyas of Kerala.
Nila Aarti
From January 19 to February 3, the Nila Aarti is performed every day starting at 6:00 p.m. There is a reason why the Nila is revered and worshipped as a deity.
Dīpa Prayāṇam and Arayāl Pratiṣṭhā
By invoking the temple deities of one’s own region into a lamp, they can be brought to the sacred confluence ground at Tirunavaya, where the divine gathering (Deva Saṅgama) takes place.
From Tirunavaya, one may take back banyan (arayāl) saplings to be planted and protected in one’s homeland, to serve as seats for the deities who have been empowered upon reaching this sacred land.
The sacred water required for this arayāl pedestal consecration may also be carried along from the holy Nila (Bhāratappuzha).
Special Pujas
Through these special rituals,
we are going to transform,
and Kerala is also going to transform.
Through the rare and traditional rituals performed under the sacred guidance of eminent acharyas of India, we can welcome complete prosperity into our families.
